nolan altvater (they/them) is a passamaquoddy visual artist from sipayik. currently working for the passamaquoddy cultural heritage museum at motahkomikuk while an interdisciplinary studies phd student at the university of maine, they spend their time working in what is now the orono and washington county areas. their approach to photography and film is to engage with the medium in order to portray the stories within landscapes that colonialism distorts or attempts to erase, overall using it as a tool for literacy and education. prior to their current position, they received their MA in education policy from the harvard graduate school of education in 2022.
